About Me
As a Town Council member over the last four years (2017-2020), I have worked diligently with residents, the Mayor, Council colleagues, town staff, county and state officials to address the many issues facing our town, helping ensure Chesapeake Beach continues to be a great place to live. Along the way we've enacted an ethics ordinance for elected officials and staff, payed down the town debt, made progress on making CB a more walkable community, helped reduce overdose rates, and done much more. I hope you will vote for me in 2020 so I may continue to serve you over the next four years.
My family and I have been proud to call Chesapeake Beach home since 2003, when we were drawn here by the small-town atmosphere, bay breezes, and great schools. We arrived at the "Beach" just in time for a welcoming embrace from Hurricane Isabelle. Five days without electricity is rarely fun, and even less so with two young children in tow and half your household still in boxes! But it gave us the opportunity to experience just how friendly and selfless our new neighbors in Chesapeake Beach could be as they helped each other pull through the crisis, lending a hand wherever needed. As a biologist, I was thrilled to be moving next to the bay, but it was my new neighbors' actions that convinced me we had chosen the right community for our home. I am grateful to say that since then my family has thrived in Chesapeake Beach with my son recently graduating from UMD and my daughter midway through college, after getting great starts at Beach Elementary and Windy Hill Middle schools. As my children launch into adulthood, I was humbled to have been elected to serve on Town Council and give back to the community that gave us so much!

For my day job, I am a supervisory wildlife biologist with the federal government. I began my career with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service over 25 years ago working towards the recovery of the endangered Puerto Rican Parrot, and now serve as Program Coordinator of the North American Breeding Bird Survey (BBS), a national biological monitoring program located at the USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. Educated at Indiana University in Biology and Environmental Science, I have a strong interest in partnering to achieve science, conservation and community goals.
Prior to serving on Town Council, I worked closely with residents, state employees and town officials to develop and implement the Chesapeake Beach Oyster Cultivation Society (CBOCS) that, in addition to restoring over 80,000 oysters to the Bay each year, also serves as an environmental education resource for local schools in cooperation with Chespax; and CBOCS continues to grow and flourish under John Bacon's leadership. As Chesapeake Station HOA President, I collaborated with residents and Town staff to improve communication and transparency while safeguarding the HOA's fiscal and physical well-being by establishing an HOA website, ensuring open Board meetings, posting Board minutes, establishing regular property inspections, planting over 30 trees to reduce stormwater runoff, and developing new resolutions and rules for snow removal and beach safety, as well as updating our architectural standards to reflect current law and resident preferences.
